Nature Detective Walks

In early 2010 Andrew Mottram was approached by ITV to appear with Rory McGrath in the second series of the popular ITV series 'The Lakes'. The cameras followed Andrew around The Wild Boar woods near Windermere where Andrew runs nature walks and shows budding nature detectives how best to explore the woodland trails in this fantastic area of the lakes.

Andrew Mottram can be booked for small groups at The Wild Boar woods for one of his Nature Detective Walks please contact The Wild Boar to arrange a suitable date where an accommodation and Nature trail package can be arranged. Please note: The Woods are private for guests and patrons of The Wild Boar Inn Grill & Smokehouse.

Woodmatters Woodland Courses

The Wild Boar in partnership with Woodmatters is offering a series of woodland courses this Autumn, hosted at the Wild Boar's woodland estate.

The three courses on offer, Family Bushcraft Day, Bowl Carving, Beginners Spoon Carving will cater for a range of ages and abilities. The Family Bushcraft Day is a chance to explore the woodland landscape and learn firelighting, shelter building and greenwood skills or learn how to transform a piece of wood into a beautiful cooking spoon on the Beginners Spoon Carving course or alternatively learn how to make a scandinavian style bowl on the Bowl Carving course.

Smoking Courses

The Wild Boar is working with smoking experts Smoky Jo’s to provide two day courses, where guests will learn how to hot and cold smoke their own food.

Those taking part in the courses will get the chance to smoke a range of different foods such as chicken, salmon, sausages and cheeses. As well as using the Inns own purpose built smokehouse the Smoky Jo’s team will show how tremendous results can be achieved at home – on a stove, converted bbq, wardrobe or filing cabinet!

Clay Pigeon Shooting

Why not try your hand at clay pigeon shooting with our Instructor at the purpose built shooting range, situated within the hotel's very own private 72 acre wood. Take your chance to shoot at clays that simulate the flight of a number of different wild birds, including; the pheasant, crow, grouse and perhaps even a bolting rabbit!
