Christmas Celebrations at the Midland 2013
The Midland provides the perfect setting to enjoy a very special Christmas and New Year. This iconic Art-Deco building has been lovingly restored, with many original features from its glamorous heyday sitting comfortably alongside its chic interior design, and many of the 44 boutique-style rooms boasting truly spectacular views across Morecambe Bay.
2013 Christmas Breaks - Programme
Monday 23rd December 2013
Arrive to a warm welcome and glass of piping hot, homemade mulled wine, before relaxing and unwinding in our restaurant overlooking Morecambe Bay and the Lake District Fells beyond.
After settling into your room (and perhaps enjoying your complimentary bottle of Champagne courtesy of our friends at Laurent Perrier), our famous Midland afternoon tea is served from 3pm and the hotel’s TV Lounge will be showing a selection of seasonal favourites throughout the afternoon.
This evening Matt Stanaway, General Manager, and the rest of the team welcome you to the evening’s entertainment beginning with a Laurent Perrier Champagne and canapé reception to the sounds of our resident pianist, followed by dinner in the hotel’s Terrace Restaurant. The 8-course gourmet menu this evening celebrates The Midland’s 80th birthday and comprises some of the best dishes enjoyed by past guests over the years.
Christmas Eve – Tuesday 24th December 2013
Following a hearty Lancashire breakfast, why not sit back and relax with a glass of your favourite tipple, or alternatively explore the hotel and surrounding area with our festive treasure hunt.
Champagne, fish and chips will be served from 3pm to the festive sounds of the Morecambe Brass Band, then why not join our concierge, Brian Jenkins for a glass of bubbly and fascinating tour of this internationally renowned modernist masterpiece.
This evening, dastardly deeds are afoot, and it is your task to unmask the culprit with the return of our friends at ‘After Dark’ for a very special Festive Murder Mystery Evening. The menu for this evening celebrates the opening of The Midland with dishes from the very first meals ever served in the hotel.
Local parish churches welcome the community and visitors alike for midnight mass, and a warm glass of mulled wine awaits your return to the hotel.
Christmas Day – Wednesday 25th December 2013
Christmas Day at The Midland begins with a celebratory glass of bucks fizz, a visit from a very special seasonal visitor, and a full Lancashire breakfast. You might then take the opportunity to relax and unwind (or open presents) before the main event of the day - a four course traditional Christmas Day lunch served with all the trimmings, followed, as ever, by the broadcast of the Queen’s Speech.
After the exertions of the day, a light but sumptuous buffet will be served, showcasing some of the fantastic local produce and suppliers we are proud to support.
Following this, why not compete against fellow guests in our parlour games competition or simply sit back and enjoy the surroundings, with a glass of your favourite tipple and relax for what remains of a very special Christmas Day.
Boxing Day – Thursday 26th December 2013
Why not enjoy a (completely optional) lie-in before joining us for a very leisurely brunch.
Following the opportunity to enjoy a special and exclusive tour around the historic Morecambe Winter Gardens, join us back at the hotel for champagne afternoon tea, before gathering together for the return of The Midland ‘Ready Steady Cook’ where 2 lucky guests will be able to work with our chefs in producing 2 wonderful dishes to the amazement (or otherwise) of their fellow guests.
The evening’s entertainment then begins with a festive hog roast followed by the return of our Midland pub quiz with great prizes for the winning team, and even greater prizes for those willing to bribe the quizmaster! Finally, why not enjoy a nightcap overlooking the splendour of Morecambe Bay and round off a unique and memorable Christmas.
Friday 27th December 2013
Following another hearty breakfast, we must unfortunately say our goodbyes to those of you not wishing to take advantage of our special preferential rates to extend your stay, as you leave us with our very best wishes and in the hope of having the pleasure of welcoming you back to The Midland in the very near future.
