2012 Christmas Breaks - Programme

Sunday 23rd December 2012

Following a very warm welcome and a glass of piping hot homemade mulled wine, relax and unwind in our restaurant overlooking Morecambe Bay and the Lake District Fells beyond and enjoy one of our famous Midland Afternoon Teas. Then, dust of those dancing shoes and join us in the hotel foyer for a ‘Swing’ dance masterclass with the return of our dance instructors Anthony and Stephanie.

This evening Matt Stanaway, General Manager, and the rest of the team welcome you to the evening’s entertainment beginning with a champagne and canapé reception to the sounds of our resident pianist, followed by dinner in the hotel’s Terrace Restaurant with a multi-course gourmet tasting menu, celebrating the heritage and produce of some of Lancashire’s finest food producers.

Christmas Eve – Monday 24th December 2012

After a hearty Lancashire breakfast, why not sit back and relax with a glass of your favourite tipple, or alternatively explore the hotel and surrounding area with our festive treasure hunt.

Then, following the festive sounds of the Morecambe Brass Band, join us in our Sun Terrace Restaurant to experience a traditional Midland Afternoon Tea, followed by a chance to battle your way through the qualifying rounds of The Midland’s inaugural ‘virtual’ Winter Olympics.

Later, why not join our concierge, Brian Jenkins for a glass of bubbly and fascinating tour of this internationally renowned modernist masterpiece.

The evening’s entertainment then begins with a festive hog roast followed by the return of our Midland pub quiz with great prizes for the winning team, and greater prizes for those willing to bribe the quizmaster!

Our Winter Olympics heats then commence with a selection of events available to master prior to tomorrow’s grand final.

Local parish churches welcome the community and visitors alike for midnight mass, and a warm glass of mulled wine awaits your return to the hotel.

Christmas Day – Tuesday 25th December 2012

Christmas Day at The Midland begins, as ever, with a celebratory glass of bucks fizz, a visit from a very special seasonal visitor, and a full Lancashire breakfast, before the opportunity to relax and unwind (or open presents) before the main event of the day - a four course traditional Christmas Day lunch served with all the trimmings, followed as ever by the broadcast of the Queen’s Speech.

After the exertions of the day, a light but sumptuous buffet will be served, along with the opportunity to warm up for the Grand Finals of the Midland Winter Olympics 2012, with fantastic prizes on offer for those elite ‘athletes’ amongst you. Alternatively, and for those wishing to simply sit back and enjoy the surroundings, why not enjoy a glass of your favourite tipple and relax with one of our parlour games.

Boxing Day – Wednesday 26th December 2012

Why not enjoy a (completely optional) lie-in before joining us for a very leisurely brunch.

Following the opportunity to enjoy a very special and exclusive tour around the historic Morecambe Winter Gardens, join us back at the hotel for champagne, fish and chips before gathering together for a special Midland edition of Ready Steady Cook where 2 lucky guests will be able to work with our chefs in producing 2 wonderful dishes to the amazement (or otherwise) of their fellow guests.

This evening dastardly deeds are afoot, and it is your task to unmask the culprit with the return of our friends at ‘After Dark’ for a very special Murder Mystery Evening.

Finally, hopefully having cracked the case, why not enjoy a nightcap overlooking the splendour of Morecambe Bay and round off a unique and memorable Christmas.

Thursday 27th December 2012

Following another hearty breakfast, we must unfortunately say our goodbyes to those of you not wishing to take advantage of our special preferential rates to extend your stay, as you leave us with our very best wishes and in the hope of having the pleasure of welcoming you back to The Midland in the very near future.
