Christmas Breaks at the Waterhead
The Waterhead is the Lake District’s only four star townhouse hotel, and the perfect location to enjoy a truly special Christmas. The interior is stylish and luxurious belonging firmly in the twenty-first century, but the exterior views are timeless with the Bar & Grill and many of the 41 rooms looking out over a tranquil Lakeland setting with a backdrop of Wetherlam Fell and Coniston Old Man. 2016 Christmas Breaks Programme
Friday 23rd December
Arrive to a warm welcome and piping hot glass of our ‘secret recipe’ Winter Pimms together with a complimentary bottle of house champagne in your room* before unwinding and relaxing in our Bar and Lounge overlooking Windermere and the fells beyond.
This afternoon we will be serving a light arrival buffet as everyone settles in prior to the festivities ahead.
Tonight, join manager Anthony Sutcliffe and his team for a champagne and canape reception, courtesy of our friends at Laurent Perrier, followed by head chef Nick Martin’s special multi-course Cumbrian tasting menu, celebrating some of the very best produce and dishes the region has to offer. After dinner you will have the chance to become part of TeamGB as we host our very own Waterhead Olympics in celebration of the games held this summer in Rio, Brazil.
Christmas Eve – Saturday 24th December
Following a hearty Cumbrian breakfast, why not discover the delights of Ambleside to buy that last minute Christmas present, take up the challenge of our all-new Treasure Hunt, or simply sit back and relax with your favourite tipple!
Then, join us back in the Bar and Lounge where we will be serving an afternoon tea selection with will feature some traditional classic, along with tea and coffee.
Tonight, join Anthony Sutcliffe, Hotel Manager and the team as a chilled glass of champagne awaits you prior to a Monte Carlo-inspired four course dinner in our restaurant followed by our ever-popular casino night with the opportunity to chance your hand without compromising your wallet!
Our local parish churches welcome the community and visitors alike for midnight mass and a glass of mulled wine will await your return to the hotel.
Christmas Day - Sunday 25th December
Our chimneys will be swept in anticipation of a seasonal visitor who will greet you with presents and a glass of Festive Fizz prior to a full Christmas breakfast.
Although we’re sure that for many the rest of the morning may be spent opening gifts, why not enjoy some stimulating and invigorating Lakeland air on one of our local walks before returning to the hotel for our traditional five course Christmas Day lunch served with all the trimmings, followed by the Queen’s speech televised at 3pm in the Bar.
The afternoon is yours to enjoy with obligatory board games, a Christmas movie, or maybe a cheeky siesta.
Join us again in the evening for a light buffet supper, the rest of the evening being relaxed and informal - the perfect opportunity to unwind following the exertions of the day or maybe to challenge family and friends to a game of giant Jenga!
Boxing Day - Monday 26th December
Relax and enjoy a well-earned lie-in! Brunch will be served in the Bar & Grill and then why not take advantage of a complimentary cruise on Lake Windermere or alternatively head for the sales in the village?
This afternoon we will be serving our taste of Cumbria buffet where head chef Nick Martin will select some of his favourite produce for you to sample, followed by a gin and tonic tasting masterclass from the Waterhead’s ever expanding gin library, which will include the opportunity to experiment with different garnishes.
This evening join us for a champagne reception prior to dinner and the opportunity to assemble your teams for our annual Festive Pub Quiz, with prizes for the lucky winners!
A drink or two in our lounge and bar will round off a memorable and relaxing Christmas at The Waterhead.

Following a final hearty Lakeland breakfast the team at The Waterhead will bid you farewell and look forward to welcoming you back in the very near future.
