Christmas Breaks - 2017 Provisional Programme
Saturday 23rd December 2017
Arrival is from 3.00pm and, once you have settled into your room, we invite you to sample our famous homemade hot toddy, meet the management team who will be hosting your festive celebrations and enjoy a light afternoon buffet in our restaurant. Following this, why not enjoy a board game, giant ‘Jenga’ in our Undermillbeck room, begin our 2017 ‘Wild Boar Quiz’ or simply relax in our residents’ Lounge with your preferred tipple? Tonight, our festive celebrations really begin with the return of our ever-popular Hand Bell Ringers playing a selection of classic Christmas songs, following which we will be serving a very special Festive Hog Roast and buffet, showcasing some of the very best ingredients from both our favourite Lakeland suppliers and our own on-site Wild Boar Smokehouse.
Christmas Eve – Sunday 24th December 2017
This morning a hearty Cumberland Grill awaits - the perfect way to begin your day!
Today we have arranged for our resident sharpshooter Mike to host a very special Wild Boar Archery morning where you will have the opportunity to experience the latest addition to the facilities here at ‘The Boar’. Alternatively, why not explore the village of Bowness-on-Windermere - an ideal opportunity for any last minute Christmas shopping.
Upon your return, join us for a ‘Pub Lunch’ and the chance to assemble your team for the next round of our 2017 Wild Boar Quiz with prizes for the winners!
Tonight we will be serving a festive four course dinner, accompanied by a selection of single malt whiskies from around the world chosen by our very own ‘Master of Malt’ George Hutton – the perfect way to round off a memorable Christmas Eve and in anticipation of the big day tomorrow.
For those wishing to attend Midnight Mass we will be providing transport to Crook Village Church and there will of course be mince pies and mulled wine waiting upon your return.
Christmas Day - Monday 25th December 2017
A very special guest will be waiting to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and offer a chilled glass of something bubbly prior to a hearty Lakeland Breakfast.
You are then invited to join Adam Bujok, Manager of The Wild Boar, on his annual walk around the Gilpin Valley taking in some of the stunning views of the local area.
Return for a piping hot glass of our homemade mulled wine and then join us for the main event of the day - our traditional Christmas Day lunch that our brigade of chefs have been busy preparing all morning.
This afternoon is a time to relax, enjoy some of the gifts that Father Christmas delivered and soak up the atmosphere that only Christmas at The Wild Boar can bring. No Christmas at ‘The Boar’ would be complete without our Gingerbread House Making Competition and this year is no exception – following 2016’s winning entry, the gauntlet has been well and truly thrown down and prizes await this year’s most creative creations!
Tonight begins with a light but sumptuous yuletide buffet, followed by our annual Dominoes competition for the more competitive guests, festive films and games in ‘Undermillbeck’ or maybe just the option to sit back and relax in front of one of our roaring fires as Christmas Day 2017 draws to a close.
Boxing Day – Tuesday 26th December 2017
A hearty late breakfast is the perfect start to any day and, following this, we have arranged for a morning of Clay pigeon shooting in our woods - suitable for all whether you are a beginner or an expert and everyone should hit at least one clay!
This lunchtime we will be serving our popular and indulgent Wild Boar Afternoon Tea accompanied by a choice of champagnes produced by our friends at Laurent Perrier – what better way to spend an afternoon!
Tonight, you are invited to join us for an evening of ‘Monte Carlo meets the Lake District’ with a delicious ‘Taste of The Wild Boar’ dinner followed by the return of our Wild Boar Casino night – whether it be Blackjack, Roulette or Wheel of Fortune, you will have the opportunity to chance your hand without compromising your wallet!
A nightcap by one of our roaring fires will round off what we are sure will be a most enjoyable and memorable Christmas celebration at The Wild Boar Inn.
Wednesday 27th December 2017
The conclusion of our Christmas package is of course a traditional Cumbrian breakfast and a fond farewell with best wishes for the year ahead.
