Christmas Breaks - 2016 Programme

Friday 23rd December 2016

Arrival is from 3.00pm and, once you have settled into your room, we invite you to sample our famous homemade mulled wine, meet the management team who will be hosting your festive celebrations and enjoy a light afternoon buffet in our restaurant. Following this, why not enjoy a board game, our special ‘Winter Olympics’ or simply relax in our resident’s Lounge with your preferred tipple?

Tonight, our festive celebrations really begin with the return of our local Hand Bell Ringers playing a selection of classic Christmas songs, following which we will be serving a very special ‘Taste of The Wild Boar’ tasting menu, showcasing some of our most famous dishes along with the very best Lakeland ingredients from our favourite suppliers.

Christmas Eve – Saturday 24th December 2016

This morning a hearty Cumberland Grill awaits - the perfect way to begin your day!

Today we have arranged for a cruise around Lake Windermere allowing you to take in some of Lakeland’s most spectacular mountain scenery or, alternatively, why not explore the village of Bowness-on-Windermere - an ideal opportunity for any last minute Christmas shopping. Upon your return, join us for a ‘Pub Lunch’ and the chance to assemble your team for our all-new Festive Quiz with prizes for the winners!

Tonight we will be serving a festive four course dinner, accompanied by a selection of champagnes, chosen by our friends at Laurent Perrier – the perfect way to round off a memorable Christmas Eve and in anticipation of the big day tomorrow.

For those wishing to attend Midnight Mass we will be providing transport to Crook Village Church and there will of course be mince pies and mulled wine waiting upon your return.

Christmas Day - Sunday 25th December 2016

Father Christmas will be waiting to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and offer a chilled glass of bucks fizz prior to a hearty Lakeland Breakfast.

You are then invited to take on the role of Sir Richard de Gilpin on our annual Christmas morning Wild Boar Hunt (although we now use cuddly Boars called Boris and not real ones as they would bite)!

Return for a piping hot glass of our homemade mulled wine and then join us for the main event of the day - our traditional Christmas Day lunch that our brigade of chefs have been busy preparing all morning.

This afternoon is a time to relax and enjoy some of the gifts that Father Christmas delivered or perhaps to begin exchanging stories of your great exploits against the ferocious Wild Boars from earlier this morning.

Tonight begins with a traditional yuletide buffet, followed by our annual Dominoes competition and the return of our Gingerbread House Making Competition with the opportunity to eclipse last year’s fantastic winner!

Boxing Day – Monday 26th December 2016

A hearty late breakfast is the perfect start to any day, especially for those joining us for a walk around the Gilpin Valley so that you can take in some of the stunning views of the local area.

Today we have arranged for a morning of Clay pigeon shooting in our woods - suitable for all whether you are a beginner or an expert and, with the help of the our resident sharp shooter Mike, everyone should hit at least one clay.

This afternoon we will be serving our own take on a traditional afternoon tea and hosting a Whisky Tasting with a selection specially chosen by our very own ‘Master of Malt’. Whether novice or ‘professional’, we’re confident we can find something to suit everyone’s taste!

Tonight, dastardly deeds are afoot as we welcome our friends at After Dark back to The Wild Boar for a special festive Murder Mystery Dinner with prizes for the very best amateur sleuths.

A nightcap by one of our roaring fires will round off what we are sure will be a most enjoyable and memorable Christmas celebration at The Wild Boar Inn.

Tuesday 27th December 2016

The conclusion of our Christmas package is of course a traditional Cumbrian breakfast and a fond farewell with best wishes for the year ahead.
