The Wild Boar has a long earned reputation for classic British cuisine and the smokehouse and open kitchen and chefs table add a little more theatre to the overall dining experience. A highly commended wine list, over 50 single malt whiskies and a wide range of traditional ales help complete the package to celebrate Christmas in an extraordinary traditional Inn set in the Lake District National Park.
Christmas Eve – Tuesday 24th December 2013
On arrival you will be greeted by Andy Lemm, General Manager, and the rest of The Wild Boar’s friendly and helpful team. A Champagne afternoon tea will be served in the bar lounge. Late afternoon, there will be a chance to show off your creative side as we will be letting you all try your hand at Gingerbread House making, with prizes awarded for the best efforts.
For those who want to, why not take the opportunity to visit the leisure club located at our sister hotel Low Wood Bay, or for those who have left things a little late, maybe some last minute shopping in the village of Bowness–on-Windermere.
We begin this evening with a drinks reception; before we transport you back to Victorian England, bringing back to life your favourite Dickens characters, in this festive themed murder mystery, the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future will be on hand to assist you in solving this crime.
We will be serving you a three course taster menu from the grill & smokehouse menu including dishes such as our own Damson Cured Smoked Salmon, Smoked Fillet Steak or even our Signature Smoked Wild Boar Chop.
For those who want to attend Midnight Mass we will be providing transport to Crook Village Church and there will mince pies and mulled wine upon your return.
Christmas Day - Wednesday 25th December 2013
Father Christmas will be waiting to wish you all a very Merry Christmas before you enjoy a glass of Bucks Fizz and a hearty Lakeland Breakfast.
You are invited to indulge in our Christmas morning hunt where we will be searching for the same animal that was hunted by a gentleman called Sir Richard de Gilpin. For obvious reasons there will be one or two subtle differences. After such a long time we are using cuddly Boars (not real ones as they would bite)! We will of course leave you plenty of time to get ready for the traditional Christmas day lunch that Head Chef Marc has been busy preparing.
This afternoon is a time to relax and possibly enjoy some of the gifts that Father Christmas delivered earlier this morning. Or you could begin exchanging stories of your great exploits against the ferocious Wild Boars from earlier this morning. This evening we start with a traditional yuletide buffet followed by our festive pub trivia quiz.
Boxing Day – Thursday 26th December 2013
A hearty breakfast is the perfect start to any day, but especially one as busy as this.
Today we have arranged for a morning of Clay pigeon shooting in our woods. This will be suitable for all whether you are a beginner or an expert and with the help of our resident sharp shooter Mike, everyone should hit at least one clay!
This afternoon we will be serving a light ‘’ Pub Lunch’’ and we would like you to sample some of the beers we have made onsite in our very own micro brewery.
This evening we look forward to inviting you to a four course dinner, allowing you to sample our grill & smokehouse menu, so whether it’s a 3hr Cooked Lamb shank, a 28 day aged Fillet Steak or one of our signature House Smoked Sirloin Steaks, there will be something for everyone. To make the evening more special we have also selected one of the whiskies from our range of over 70 to accompany each course.
This evening we will then be having traditional pub games, and the fiercely competitive dominoes competition. Hopefully last year’s winner will be on hand to defend his title with the winner again receiving the Champions trophy and the immortality of being named on our website as the champion for at least the next 12 months.
Friday 27th December 2013
The conclusion of our Christmas package is of course a traditional Cumbrian breakfast and a fond farewell with best wishes for the year ahead.
