We are based in the heart of the Lake District, just minutes away from Windermere railway station.
Set in the ancient beauty of the Gilpin Valley, this Coaching Inn takes its name from the local legend of Sir Richard de Gilpin who bravely fought and killed a particularly ferocious wild boar close by. However its fame these days has much more to do with the warmest of welcomes and standard of service complemented by our new, individually designed rooms, and the new Grill & Smokehouse and open kitchen offering more theatre to the overall dining experience. Head Chef Marc Sanders will proudly continue his commitment to the best locally produced seasonal ingredients. Indeed The Wild Boar has a very special quality that is often best experienced whilst relaxing by the open fire.
Bedrooms at the Boar
The bedrooms in The Wild Boar range from classic to luxury with recently refurbished individually designed feature and luxury grade rooms, that have features such as log burning stoves and copper baths. Perfect if you are looking to treat yourself to something a bit special. We also still have a number of Classic rooms which have not been refurbished but offer all the standard comforts you would expect from a country inn.

Out and about in the tranquil surroundings of the Inn, for a special occasion, a weekend break or just to spend some time in this beautiful location. Secluded, yet close to Windermere village and Bowness Bay with Windermere Golf Club virtually on our doorstep and free membership of the Low Wood Bay Leisure Club, a host of local attractions and walks.
Activities & Courses at The Wild Boar
The Wild Boar woods provide the opportunity to try clay pigeon shooting, archery, enjoy some novel outdoor fitness in the Wild Gym. Several top quality activities and courses are also available with the long running Smoking courses with Smoky Jo's and the new Bushcraft activity packages with Wood Matters.
