The Ski Boat Driver level 2 award course is aimed at those with some previous experience of driving supervised water skiers and are looking to gain the BWS Ski Boat Drivers Award.
2 Days (From zero to hero)
Pre-course experience and assumed knowledge
Before applying to complete a Ski Boat Driver Level 2 all candidates must meet the following pre-requisites:
- Be a current member of British Water Ski and Wakeboard (can apply for this at the centre)
- Be aged 16 years or over
- Have some experience of driving water skiers (under supervision) or arrange to take lessons
- Read, and be familiar with, the SBD2 Assessment handout
- Read, and be familiar with, the SBD2 Manual
Ability after course
Able to handle a powerboat safely under the right conditions and competently tow recreational waterskiiers. Aware of own limitations and those of the craft.
Upon successful completion of all requirements of the syllabus you will be awarded the BWS Ski Boat Drivers Award. Certificates are issued directly from British Water Ski. You are required to be or become a member of BWS.

The course will be taught in a highly practical manner using a RIB and Mastercraft ski boats and supported by shore-based sessions providing essential background knowledge. There will be a short multiple-choice test during the course.

The course dates show your actual activity days and the course will run from 10:00am to around 4.30pm each day. There will be a break for lunch at a convenient time. Please arrive at 9.30am on your first day to book into the centre .
What to bring
We recommend that you bring plenty of warm clothing; quick drying fleece and thermals are ideal. You will also need to bring a swimming costume, towel, trainers or wetsuit boots, hat and gloves, sunglasses and sun cream, and a flask or water bottle. You will need to bring two passport size photographs with you.
Lunch is not supplied however those attending courses at The Watersports Centre are eligible for a discount of 10% off food at the Langdale Bar at Low Wood Bay. Alternatively candidates can bring their own lunch.
The minimum age for this course is 16 years old.
How to find us
We are situated at the northern end of Windermere, on the A591 between the towns of Windermere and Ambleside. We have ample car parking on site. The nearest railway station is at Windermere (4 miles) and the centre is served by a number of bus routes.
