Grill & Smokehouse

The Wild Boar has been transformed into a four-star inn - and the first restaurant in the Lake District to have its own smokehouse. Featuring a welcoming, open-plan layout which gives diners the chance to see the chefs at work and a Chef's Table which seats up to eight people located directly next to the kitchen for the best view of the action.

Head chef, Marc Saunders, has continued with his well known commitment to using some of the best local produce in a classic British menu but has also created some interesting new dishes using the new smokehouse facility where he has had on site training from an expert in smoking products.

Marc said "It's been great fun learning a new skill, finding out about all the different wood chips that you can use to get different flavours".

"It's been fantastic to have the opportunity to create such a distinctive new menu and a completely new dining experience. I think our regular and new customers are going to be delighted with the results."

The Grill Menu

The grill menu is a meat-eater's delight with a choice of six styles of steak from fillet to a rib of beef on the bone, all of which are guaranteed British beef hung for a minimum of 28 days. Marc also gives chef recommendations on how each of the steaks should be served from rare to well done.

Puddings are another speciality with a choice of traditional favourites including Baked Alaska, Sticky Toffee Pudding and Chocolate and Amaretto mousse. There is also a daily fruit crumble served with custard and English Lakes ice cream.

Complementing the dining experience is a range of real ales, draught and bottled beers, a comprehensive wine cellar and over 50 whiskies. Guests are able to buy their own bottle of whisky or other spirits which will then be kept at the inn for their use on future visits.

Simon Berry, Managing Director of English Lakes, which owns the Wild Boar said: "We want the Wild Boar to be a traditional Lake District Inn, but with stylish and contemporary touches. As with all our hotels, there will be a very strong emphasis on good quality food and value for money."
