Canoeing & Kayaking on Lake Windermere, Lake District
Canoes and kayaks are versatile and agile craft, with a real go-anywhere ability and offer a unique perspective on the lake. We have a range of modern craft at the centre with closed-cockpit and sit-on-top kayaks, and open canoes.
Canoe & Kayak Tuition
Low Wood Watersports Centre is a British Canoe Union approved centre and whether you are a total beginner or looking to improve your skills our experienced and qualified instructors can help. All of our canoe and kayak tuition is on a private instruction basis, so can be booked at a time to suit you and tailored to meet your requirements. The instruction is normally carried out in our up-to-date fleet of Pyranha Master TG closed-cockpit kayaks or Venture Canoes Ranger 16 open canoes, or in your own boat if required.

Prices include wetsuits, wet shoes and buoyancy aids – all you need is a swimming costume and a towel.
The instruction can be on an informal basis or structured to meet the requirements of BCU awards. For adults we offer the One and Two Star awards, with the 1 Star taking one day and the 2 Star being covered over two days. The Paddlepower scheme, for under 14’s is normally undertaken on a modular basis.
The minimum age for tuition is 8 years old.
Kayaking fun and adventure for all the family. Let our instructors show you the silly side of kayaking – be prepared to get wet! Available at selected times between May and September.
50 minute sessions £17 per person

Sit-on-Top Kayak Hire
Sit-on-top kayaks are easy to paddle and incredibly stable; and if you do manage to capsize it, you just fall off – so no worries about getting trapped in the boat.
Price includes buoyancy aids. Wetsuits can be hired for £4 and wet shoes for £1 for the duration of the session. There is no minimum age to hire the boat, however there must be someone at least 18 years old on the water to supervise.
Open Canoe Hire
Traditional open canoes are a relaxing way to travel, and with two or three of you in the boat call for teamwork and co-ordination!
