Love Story Proposal

Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh and Stevie's illustrated book

Edinburgh is a special place for both of us, we've had some great times in the city previously. Stevie booked a surprise trip to Edinburgh last December and proposed at Arthur's seat (we first climbed Arthur's seat on our first trip to Edinburgh). Stevie enjoys writing and created an illustrated children's book for me which asked me to marry me on the last page, when I looked up he was down on one knee, It really was magical. That evening we ate and stayed at the Witchery, on the Royal Mile which was luxurious and fabulous. It couldn't have been more perfect.

Perfect Lake District Venue

Rebecca and Stevie on Low Wood Bay Jetty

We wanted somewhere that was on Lake Windermere and when we viewed the space with Gemma Jeffery, our amazing wedding coordinator, we immediately fell in love. We loved the Windermere room, with its big windows and views onto the Lake.

We were excited by the fact we could have a boat ride for our guests on the Lake (which we kept as a surprise until the big day!). We had a gorgeous summer’s day, which meant we were able to have the drinks reception outside on the lawn overlooking the Lake but we knew even if it had been a rainy day there were beautiful rooms indoors too - this was a big plus when choosing the venue. I would definitely recommend Low Wood to future brides. The staff are incredible and Gemma was fantastic at taking the pressure off us as she was so helpful and nothing was too much trouble for her and the team.

Bride & Groom’s Outfits

I really enjoyed the whole experience. I took my Mum with me and it was a great thing to do together. Mia Bridal was the first shop I went to. Although it looks like a dress it is actually in 2 parts! I instantly loved the Charlie Bear canya skirt and it was actually the first one I tried on and I just knew it was the one for me. I loved how unique it was and the 3D effect flowers that are really intricate and beautiful. Sarah, at Mia Bridal, is also a seamstress and created the top half of my dress - it was so special to have something bespoke created. We worked together on the design and I knew I wanted it to have a low back. We took some flowers from the bottom of the skirt, as it was too long, and placed them on the top to bring the whole outfit together. Sarah is extremely talented and the nicest person ever!

Stevie's suit was from Woven, Durham. An independent tailors in Durham. They provide an exceptional and bespoke service. We got all the extra accessories from Woven too, along with the groomsmen's suits.

Beautiful Ceremony

We had the ceremony in The Windermere - it's such a stunning space. The ceremony was beautiful and emotional. We had 2 readings in the ceremony and our friend, Becky, is a singer and sang 3 of our special songs whilst we signed the register. We were blessed with a gorgeous summer’s day, which meant we were able to have the drinks reception outside on the lawn overlooking the Lake.

Table Settings from Around the World

The tables were named after places we’ve visited around the world. We both enjoy travelling and early in to our relationship we spent a year and half travelling Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia and South America. We didn't have a particular theme for the wedding but we certainly wanted to bring our love for travelling in to the wedding reception. On each table we had photo of us in the particular place. We have a friend who is an artist and she created some artwork for the tables, they were incredible and such a great wedding memento. For our favours we created our own newspaper called 'The Wedding Bells' and included stories, pictures and fun facts about our love story so far.

Our Photographer

Camilla Lucinda Photography. Sarah, the dressmaker, recommended Camilla. As soon as we met her and saw her we knew she was the one. She made us feel at ease right away and her photography skill and style are incredible.

Three Tiers of Loveliness

Charlotte at Sugar Ruffles made our cake. We had a different flavour for each tier, Chocolate, Victoria Sponge and Passionfruit and White Chocolate. All were delicious but we loved the uniqueness of the passionfruit and white chocolate layer. Cake tasting was such fun!

Rockin’ and Rollin’

The bride and her Dad take to the dance floor

We had a 50s band in the evening which got everyone on the dance floor rockin’ and rollin’. Our first dance was Be My Baby by The Ronettes.

Special Moments

We wanted a fun day filled with love and laughter and all the special people in our lives celebrating with us, and that is exactly what our day was. Stevie's wedding speech included a video with friends from the wedding lip-syncing to one of our favourite songs and it also included messages from friends we had met around the world - and a couple of celebs too! It was lovely that people who could not make the day were involved too.

Another special highlight was taking our guests on a boat trip on Lake Windermere after the wedding breakfast. On the boat ride we were heckled into re-enacting Jack and Rose from Titanic and everyone burst in to 'My Heart Will Go On' whilst in pose. A funny memory!
