Josh & Rebecca's Wild Boar Winter Wedding

Created Wednesday, February 6, 2019, by Content Manager

We love to keep in touch with all our Wild Boar wedding couples. Josh and Rebecca tell us about their wonderful winter wedding at The Wild Boar.

All I Want for Christmas …

We met in school about age 16. Josh was the year below me so we never really went out despite his efforts. He left little notes on my car saying ‘all I want for Christmas is you’ I have to admit I did end up purchasing the Mariah Carey CD for him that Christmas - but we never got together.

We both went our own ways, had different relationships and a few years later bumped into each other and ended up going out for a coffee.

A Sunrise Proposal

Josh proposed in November 2017. He had asked my parents for permission and my Mum had given him a ring that had been in the family.

He asked me one cold morning if I wanted to go camping and watch the sunrise. I said absolutely not, but somehow he convinced me to walk to the top of Red Screes for sunrise as it was going to be frosty and clear. We wrapped up and set off about 3am in the dark. We got to the top and sat inside the shelter for a little while. As the sun started to rise I asked Josh to take a photo, so I walked out to the view and he took some shots. Quickly I dashed back to the shelter away from the wind. He says now he realised that was a great opportunity to propose so he said the photo wasn’t great and I needed to walk back and take it again. By the time I turned around to smile for the camera he was behind me on one knee with the ring.

Cosy Welcome

We love The Wild Boar for its character, the low ceilings and beams, bottles of whisky all lined up on shelves in the dining room, the mismatch chairs, the open fires and atmosphere this provides. We decided on a winter wedding, and instantly knew that The Boar would provide us with a cosy welcoming atmosphere that we wanted. What is even better is that the Boar is less than 10 minutes from where both of our family homes are, and our own home.

Bride and Grooms Outfits

My dress was by Raimon Bundo from Julia Tasker Bridal Boutique in Bowness. Shoes were ASOS and the veil was also from Julia Tasker.

Josh’s suit and shirt was Hugo Boss from Jules B Kendal, with a Reiss tie.

Sold on Food!

The wedding breakfast is what ultimately sold Josh on the Wild Boar. As soon as it was an option for our wedding he said he couldn’t wait to have a steak and a beer on his wedding day. We loved choosing the menu, even the vegetarian options were great choices which meant we felt confident everyone would have an amazing time.

A Dash of Colour

I knew I didn’t want to dress the venue too much as the Boar has such incredible character and I wanted to keep that as the main attraction. But I also wanted it to reflect our wedding, and for our guests to see our personalities in the room.

The bridesmaid dresses were in a lovely pale cream shade, their bouquets were greenery and foliage. So far the only colour I had added was in my bouquet. I had chosen to have burgundy ranunculus, roses to compliment those, along with some other dashes of burgundy and lots of foliage including bracken to give a Lakeland feel. I felt that I needed to add burgundy elsewhere.

So I decided I wanted hanging flowers from the beams, I showed the florist some ideas I had for this and then left it in their capable hands.

I then chose some vintage bottles for the table. I hired these locally from Narrative Hire and had them filled with flowers to match. I did some jam jars myself for the bar tables. I cut eucalyptus and rosemary from my mother-in-law’s garden and put them in the ribbon tied jars.

Flowers

I chose to use Greenhouse Floristry for my wedding flowers. Not only are Michelle and Ashley extremely talented florists they also have incredible values which I love. They don’t use plastic, and they forage greenery locally, and use seasonal English blooms where possible. They also have a style which so perfectly went with my wedding and The Wild Boar. They have a talent to produce creative, wild, sprawling bouquets with beautiful flowers, and that was exactly what I wanted for my bouquets.

‘Three Tiers’ for Cake

I think sometimes the cake doesn’t matter to a couple. But we really wanted a great tasting cake to be able to take slices the next day to our grandparents who wouldn’t be staying the whole day. Obviously also for us too! We settled on The Bakery at Number 4. Three tiers, one chocolate, one lemon and one white chocolate and raspberry, semi naked icing and we asked for them to decorate it with our remaining flowers which was no problem at all.

First Dance

It was always going to be Oasis. It took us a little while to settle on which song, but the winner was She is Love.

Honeymoon

After a full year of renovating our house in Kendal whilst saving for the wedding we decided we would honeymoon the next summer. So we still haven’t picked a date and we have lots of ideas of where we would like to go. We did however have a few days away in Copenhagen together after the wedding.
