A Company with Strong Foundations
Winners of the national Family Business of the Year 2016, English Lakes, with over fifty years of experience in the hotel and leisure industry, have a strong heritage of putting people - guests, suppliers and team members - right at the heart of all that we do. Simon Berry, Chairman and Managing Director, and his son, Ben Berry, were delighted to collect the award on behalf of us all.

Winning is a real feather in the cap for the entire team and it has been fantastic to gain national recognition for what we are doing. It reflects our business ethos, our approach in terms of pastoral care, and family values which go back several generations. Ultimately, it's the staff who make our business tick. Above all, we strive for everyone here to understand each other’s individual needs, from guests and visitors to colleagues and suppliers.
Waterhead, Large Hotel of the Year
Built on this culture, a second award for excellence followed hot on the heels of Family Business of the Year. The team at Waterhead are celebrating Cumbria Tourism Large Hotel of the Year. We take a moment here to say 'Congratulations!' to the team and reflect on some of the great things going on in our boutique town house hotel in Ambleside overlooking the lake.
It’s still one of the most beautiful locations in the country.

Food for Thought
Head Chef, Nick Martin, has created a strong team around him that have benefited from his training and encouragement. The results are plain to see. Whether it is lunch enjoyed al fresco in the gardens overlooking the lake, a snack in the Bar and Grill, afternoon tea, or our extensive dinner menu, service, taste and presentation is always at the forefront of our mind.
