Hydropower Coming to Low Wood Bay Soon

By the end of Summer 2021 English Lakes Hotels will take a giant leap forward in reducing our carbon footprint. This exciting renewable energy project is already well under way at Low Wood Bay which will mean that we generate one third of the resort’s energy requirements by using local natural resources.

The hydroelectric turbine, which will be housed in a small Lakeland-style barn, will be driven by water diverted from the top of the hill just behind the hotel before flowing back into the river. The project designer is Ellergreen Hydro who have been designing similar schemes for over ten years. GPHL, a local family business from Penrith, have been appointed as lead contractor.
