Following the historic previous public flights of Waterbird, the team are delighted to announce another opportunity to see the award-winning replica seaplane take to the air.
Subject to Permission being granted by the Lake District National Park Authority, our flying displays will take place on Windermere, Waterbird’s home, on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th September from 6:45 pm.
Spectators will also enjoy a flying display by a second, more modern seaplane, the Aviat Husky, showing the long legacy that Waterbird inspired.
The viewing area will be at Low Wood Bay front lawns on the marina side, framing the seaplanes against the magnificent Langdale Pikes. There will be a selection of food and beverage available to purchase on the lawns for guests attending. There is no entry fee.

There is a permanent exhibition recording Windermere’s role in the history of the development of aeroplanes at Windermere Library.
It explains how the first successful flights taking off from water in the UK happened on the lake. This later led to the establishment of a Naval seaplane school and the building of a flying boat factory on its shores during World War II.
The exhibition highlights the exploits of Captain Edward Wakefield. He initiated the development of aeroplanes capable of taking off from water and patented the ‘stepped’ float.
