Jonquil Cook

Jonquil Cook in her studio

Born in London in 1969 Jonquil trained in theatre and Fine Art before pursuing a career in ceramic design. For more than two decades Jonquil has produced work using high fired stoneware clay and custom made slips and glazes. Her methods combine throwing and hand-building of a variety of forms including vases, platters and tile panels, always with an eye on functionality. Jonquil decorates the surfaces with detailed sgraffito carvings, a method adapted from wood-cut printmaking techniques. Her education, mostly through a series of apprenticeships, has led her around the world, and her work has been exhibited and sold internationally. Current projects include development of a line of fine furniture in which carved stoneware tiles are incorporated into finely crafted original pieces.
