When is your Watersports Centre open?
Our Windermere Watersports Centre opens seasonally as follows:
- The centre is open between April and October
- During the season, our daily opening hours are 9am - 5pm
- During summer holidays, bank holidays open till 7pm
- The centre is closed during the winter, from November until April
Will my session be cancelled in bad weather?
Before you arrive, please check our opening times and Terms and Conditions, plus parking information. Please be aware that all sessions are subject to availability and weather conditions.
If there is adverse weather on the day of your activity our centre team will call you first thing to let you know and offer alternative options.
Where is the Watersports Centre at Low Wood Bay?
You can find us at the northern end of Windermere, on the A591 between the towns of Windermere and Ambleside. We have ample car parking on site. The nearest railway station is at Windermere (4 miles) and the centre is served by a number of bus routes.

Where can I park?
Whether you're visiting us for paddleboarding or yacht hire on Windermere, you're welcome to park on-site. Our facilities include:
- We have plenty of parking on site, free to customers.
- Changing rooms and showers
- Equipment hire
- A small shop selling refreshments and watersports equipment
Can I launch from your Windermere jetty?
Yes, day launching is available at our Windermere Watersports Centre. Here's what you need to know:
- We charge £35 per powered craft and £15 per unpowered craft
- Day launching is available during our opening hours of 9 - 5pm
- Parking is included with this charge.
- Please report to the Watersports reception to complete a day launch form and pay upon your arrival
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, dogs are welcome on-site but must be on leads. At the owners' risk, dogs are allowed on:
- Motor boats
- Canoes
- Kayaks
- Pedalo
- Sailing boats
Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted on:
- Paddleboards
- Wakesurfing and kneeboarding boats
if I need to cancel?
We understand that sometimes, life gets in the way!
If you need to cancel your watersports on Windermere, please contact the centre directly, either by phone 015394 39441 or email at watersports.lowwood@englishlakes.co.uk. To receive a full refund for your activity, please get in touch at least 72 hours before your booking is due to start.
If you cancel within 72 hours of the activity starting, you will not receive a refund.
Is your Windermere boat hire unsupervised?
Yes, it is. As per our Terms & Conditions, you accept responsibility for the safety of yourself and your party. Under-18s must be accompanied and closely supervised by a parent or legal guardian at all times during the hire.
Please note that all our boats and operators are licensed and inspected by South Lakeland District Council as required under the Public Health Act 1907, Section 94.
How far can I drive a motor boat?
On our 2-hour motor boat hire, you can typically expect to cruise south towards Bowness-on-Windermere, then loop up to the northern end - Ambleside before heading back to us. On our 4-hour hire, you can expect to reach the southern end of Windermere (Fell Foot) and return to the centre, allowing you to enjoy most of the lake at a relaxed pace. There are some safety rules of driving the motor boats;
Boats must not be driven within 100 metres of the shore, within areas marked by red buoys, or within 50 metres of any other craft. Motor boats may also only be driven by those aged over 16 years under the supervision of an adult.
What are your terms and conditions?
Our General Conditions for watersports and boat hire on Windermere are as follows:
You are willing to comply with all safety regulations, instructions and notices.
Safety is paramount to all our activities. However, watersports adventure activities are hazardous by their nature and you accept that there are risks.
Buoyancy aids will be provided for each member of your party and must be properly worn during the activity.
The Company shall not be liable for any loss; this extends to loss or damage to personal property, vehicles and harm to persons on the premises or using the facility equipment.
