Honister Slate Mine & Via Ferrata

Located at the head of the picturesque and dramatic Honister Pass, this is Honister Slate Mine, the last working slate mine in England. However, as an attraction it is so much more than simply the production of world famous Westmorland green slate.

The Slate Mine

Travel deep inside the heart of the mountain on a mine tour, or challenge yourself to ‘Climb the Mine’ following the route of the original hardy and fearless miners.

The Via Ferrata

Outside, there are adrenaline-filled adventures aplenty with a choice of either the VIA FERRATA CLASSIC or the Via Ferrata Xtreme.

The Via Ferrata Classic

The Classic route is an award winning attraction suitable for most ages and abilities. It follows the original miners’ route to the top of the mountain.

The Via Ferrata Xtreme

The Xtreme is a much more challenging experience with exposed mountain drops, vertical climbs, ladders, a Burma Bridge and cargo net crossing. Not for the faint hearted, but well worth the scare!
