Hill Top - Beatrix Potter’s Farmhouse

Beatrix Potter's farmhouse, near Sawrey, provided inspiration for the famous Lake District children's author.

Beatrix Potter purchased Hill Top with the proceeds of the Tale of Peter Rabbit. Now meticulously maintained, this is a place that Beatrix Potter loved, and where she was inspired to write many more adventures for her beloved creatures.

Visitors to Hill Top can meander along the path from the house and enjoy the cottage-garden, filled with seasonal flowers and vegetables.

There is a timed-ticket system in place to avoid overcrowding the house. Tickets must be prebooked in advance.
