Vintage car rally takes pit stop at Low Wood Bay

When it comes to Vintage Car rallies in the UK, The Flying Scotsman is one of the foremost events in the diary.

The Flying Scotsman vintage car rally

It typically takes in some of the most beautiful rural countryside in Britain.  Scenic routes and settings add to the magic of experiencing these classic vintage cars in action, a real throwback to bygone times and the old freedom of the road.

So it was a thrill for the team at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa to host the 2024 event participants as part of a large Lake District hotel group booking as they ended the first day of the vintage car rally in Windermere.

Organised by HERO-ERA events, The Flying Scotsman vintage car rally is a celebration of pre-war motoring.  The 2024 edition has featured a number of highlights, including the Lake District National Park.  The arrival of over 60 vintage cars at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa on the shores of Windermere was a spectacular sight.

The rally initially departed from Carden Park near Chester before heading east up to the Derbyshire Dales.  The cars then motored northward to the tranquillity of the Yorkshire Dales before navigating their way into the Lake District.

An evening rest stop at Low Wood Bay was the perfect tonic, with participants settling in for the night with a hearty meal in the venue’s onsite restaurants, The W and Blue Smoke, and enjoying the relaxing atmosphere of the spa and atrium.

"We’re well equipped to host big events and larger group bookings like this in addition to our conferencing facilities. And we have lots of car rallies here thanks to the facilities and space at the resort. This was a very different challenge of course in accommodating not only the drivers and organising team, but also over 60 classic vintage cars being carefully tended to overnight in the car park. Seeing the cars all lined up and the drivers tinkering with and tuning their engines was a real point of interest for both our guests and staff."
Mark Needham, General manager of Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa

The second day of the vintage car rally Lake District tour continued with a scenic northerly run through the national park and then on to the Scottish Lowlands.  On Sunday’s final day, the rally sped on to the western highlands.

The planning of the event and its chosen routes was carefully thought out so these beautiful vintage cars could be seen in all their glory with the backdrop of outstanding natural beauty.
