The Wild Boar has a long earned reputation for classic British cuisine and the smokehouse, open kitchen and chef’s table add a little more theatre to the overall dining experience. A highly commended wine list, over 100 single malt whiskies and a range of home-brewed ales help complete the package to celebrate Christmas in an extraordinary traditional location.
Provisional 2021 Programme
Thursday 23rd December
Arrival is from 3.00pm and, once you have settled into your room, we invite you to sample a glass of homemade mulled wine, meet our Manager Adam Bujok and his management team who will be hosting your festive celebrations and enjoy a light buffet in our smokehouse restaurant. Following this, why not treat yourself to a drink in the Bar by one of our open fires or in our Undermillbeck TV Lounge where we will be screening some Christmas favourites.
Tonight, the celebrations begin with our brass band playing festive tunes together with a bubbly and canapé reception, following which we will be serving a very special Cumbrian Festive Hog Roast and Ale buffet, showcasing some of the very best ingredients from both our favourite Lakeland suppliers and our own on-site Wild Boar Smokehouse.

This morning a hearty Lakeland breakfast awaits - the perfect way to begin your day! Today, enjoy our complimentary trip to uncover the stories of Windermere’s boats, builders, owners and users via interactive displays, oral histories and historic collection of boats at Windermere Jetty – Museum of Boats, Steam and Stories. Alternatively, why not explore the village of Bowness-on-Windermere - an ideal opportunity for any last minute Christmas shopping.
This evening we will be serving a festive four course dinner, accompanied by a selection of single Malts Whiskies from our friends at The Balvenie distillery – the perfect way to round off a memorable Christmas Eve and in anticipation of the big day tomorrow. For those wishing to attend Midnight Mass we will be providing transport to Crook Village Church and there will of course be mince pies and mulled wine waiting upon your return.

A very special guest will be waiting to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and offer a chilled glass of something bubbly prior to a hearty Lakeland Grill.

No Christmas at ‘The Boar’ would be complete without our Gingerbread House Making Competition and this year is no exception – following 2020’s winning entry, the gauntlet has been well and truly thrown down and prizes await this year’s most eye catching creations!
Tonight begins with a delicious yuletide buffet, followed by our annual Dominoes competition (for the more competitive guests), festive films and games in ‘Undermillbeck’ or perhaps just the option to sit back and relax in front of one of our roaring fires as Christmas Day 2021 draws to a close.
