The Brewhouse, at The Wild Boar, was created to extend our passion for excellent food and exquisite ales.
The Brewhouse Microbrewery
Originally with the expertise of master-brewer Tim Bloomer, of Fell Brewery, we created a selection of real ales here at the Inn which are available for you to enjoy at the Inn’s bar as well as at other English Lakes hotels.
Mad Pig Ale
A classic session ale where balance reigns supreme. Mad Pig Ale has a dry body and uses a clean fermenting yeast. This platform allows for a sympathetic hop addition to provide subtlety and intrigue to the mix. This beer strips brewing back to its roots creating a harmony between balance, complexity and moreishness. Enjoy it anytime, on its own or with food.
OG (Original Gravity): 1039
Aroma Hop: Centennial (USA)
Food Pairings: Roasted and grilled meats
The history of Pale Ale is long and noteworthy. Its export to India to satisfy thirsty colonialists created the greatest story the brewing world has to offer. A hoppy beer, flavours of citrus and pine give way to a bitter but clean finish. Through years of taxation and drive for profits, the spirit of pale ale and IPA got lost. Hogshead 54 seeks to rekindle that fire.
OG (Original Gravity): 1054
Aroma Hop: Chinook (USA)
Food Pairings: Spicy food (Indian, Thai), sandwiches, smoked fish
A rich, dark ale made with malted barley smoked on site in the Wild Boar Smokehouse. The smoky flavours are balanced with roasty, chocolaty notes from dark malt to produce something quite unique. Brilliant with food, Smoked Porter brings this most traditional of beer styles into the 21st Century by delivering intrigue and satisfaction. Not to be missed.
OG (Original Gravity): 1043
Food Pairings: Hearty, savoury dishes or anything smoked!
A classic ruby mild focused around a balanced, toasted malt flavor. Bitterness is kept very low and a clean fermenting yeast ensures smooth drinkability. A fitting update to a retrospective classic, enjoy Mild Boar with savoury foods.
OG (Original Gravity): 1040
Food Pairings: Cured meats, savoury snacks
Blonde Boar is a light, refreshing ale perfect for warmer months or nostalgic musings towards them. Low in bitterness but with a healthy addition of New World hops, this beer delivers a zesty, fruity aroma and taste with a light, clean body. A highly-sessionable beer, but with more to it than initially meets the eye.
OG (Original Gravity): 1037
Food Pairings: Salads, Egg dishes and Spicy Food
