Our business values focus strongly on the wider family of our workforce. We’ve built a work-life culture based on respect, creativity and fun for our team members and the guests we host across out venues. It’s a great place to come to work and throw your hat into the ring with new ideas.
So whether you’re looking for jobs in Lancaster, Kendal or Windermere, it’s worth taking a look at our current vacancies.
From professional training and development to discounts, vouchers and free meals at the venue whilst you’re on duty, our aim is to take care of our workforce. And there are many rewards to be gained with dedication to service and a positive approach to teamwork.
For Lancaster jobs, it's worth keeping an eye on Lancaster House Hotel for upcoming vacancies. For Kendal jobs and employment opportunities in and around Windermere, Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa and the Wild Boar Estate are great places to work.
We ensure that every new employee gets the training and support they need to develop and enjoy their career. We want to be in consideration for being amongst the top 10 employers in Cumbria for job satisfaction.
Our initial ‘Expectations’ course provides a warm welcome, an overview of our venues and an introduction to our +1 culture. Employees then have a 6 week and 11 week review with their line manager to ensure that they are happily settling into their role.
Our training offer includes in-house skills, customer care and Health and Safety. There is also on-the-job training and support through relevant NVQs and courses in different areas of hospitality and catering management.
Our Culinary Academy in partnership with Kendal College provides accredited training for budding chefs. And we have strong connections with other local colleges and training organisations too.
In addition, our Personal Development Fund allows employees to apply for funding to pursue agreed personal development goals.
“We recognise that every employee has a unique set of skills, talent and level of creativity. We don’t take this for granted, but seek to nurture, encourage, motivate and empower.”
Simon Berry Executive Chairman

After successful completion of their six-week review, new employees can enjoy a complimentary one night B&B stay as our guest. That treat includes of course the employee’s partner and children, or a friend. The same applies with a B&B stay after a full year of service, and every year thereafter for your work anniversary.
And every year, employees can enjoy the benefit of a spa experience voucher or a three-hour Thermal Journey at The Spa at Low Wood Bay.
With our employees Blue Card scheme, you can also access significant discounts (up to 50%) off room rates, spa treatments and dining in our fabulous restaurants.
Twice a year we run a ‘Flash sale’ for team members to access generous discounted rates on hotel stays and selected spa services.
There’s free parking and free staff uniforms to boot, and where we can help with staff accommodation, we have some limited availability.
Low Wood Bay and Lancaster House have excellent gym and leisure club facilities for our guests. So we also make free health club membership a perk of your job here.
As an employee of English Lakes Hotels, you have free gym membership at the Sandpiper Club at Lancaster House. Access to hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms is a great tonic after your latest shift.
Benefits of working for English Lakes Hotels also include big discounts off watersports activities at the Low Wood Bay Watersports Centre. Take to the lake and enjoy the surrounding countryside from a completely different perspective. Go out on a paddle board, canoe, sailing or motor boat.
Every year English Lakes Hotels holds a service awards lunch. It’s an opportunity for the directors to say ‘thank you’ to team members for their dedication and loyalty. After each year of service, every employee is invited to these lunch events. It’s a sumptuous 3 course meal with the chance to mix with colleagues in a fun and friendly environment.
Attendees are also awarded English Lakes Hotels vouchers to spend in any of our hotels and restaurants. For every full year of service, vouchers worth between £100 and £350 are presented to full-time employees, depending on length of service.
There are also extra holidays each year of continuous service, up to an extra 5 days. Employees can recommend a friend for a job and receive £250 worth of vouchers if the applicant is successful.
Our +1 Culture is all about going the extra mile for our guests and for our fellow employees. The +1 system recognises the small acts of kindness that happen on a daily basis in each of our hotels.
Every month team members are nominated for activities or performance that exceeds guest or colleague expectations. Successful +1 nominees are awarded a certificate and first-time winners also receive a +1 lapel pin.
Special Silver and Gold and Champions awards are presented for team members who achieve 10, 25 and 50 ‘+1s’ respectively.
Creativity is at the heart of what we do. If an employee has a great idea with potential to transform how we work, we look to implement it.
You can influence the way we do things here with the +1 Imaginator initiative. Every idea submitted receives a response. And, if it works, it gets implemented.
Successful +1 Imaginators receive a prize including a VIP treat at an English Lakes venue of their choice.
Ever dreamed of living and working in the Lake District? Do you want to be part of a vibrant community surrounded by mountains, lakes and picture-postcard villages and towns? Here are a few things you can enjoy if you work at Low Wood Bay or The Wild Boar. Both venues are situated within the beautiful Lake District National Park.
For hill walking in the Lake District, there are literally thousands of beautiful walking routes. Many of our employees get their boots on when they have a day off and take to the hills.
Fell running can be a wonderful element of life in the Lake District. You will encounter all types of terrain. Steep mountain paths, ancient woodland, meadows, lakes and tarns, dry stone walls and wooden stiles.
Cycling in the Lake District allows you to choose a quiet country lane, a bridle path or mountain bike trail to get pedalling. There’s a route for every type of bicycle and skill level and it’s a fantastic way to explore the beautiful National Park.
The views as well as the effort in these activities can be breathtaking. And those that get into them say how much of a connection it gives you to the mountains.
The Great North Swim put Windermere on the map for open water swimming. So many wild swimmers have this lake at the top of their list of places to go. Low Wood Bay is ideally situated on the shores of Windermere. And there are many other options for open water swimming within the National Park.
