About Avondale

Early records show that the land Avondale's farm sits on was one of the first in the Paarl Valley to be allocated specifically for the production of wine grapes. Avondale is now home to the Grieve Family and 25 farm worker families. As the pioneers of Vital Health Foods, South Africa’s leading health food company, the Grieves have an innate focus on well-being that encompasses the land and its community of people. Avondale are committed to providing fair and decent living and working conditions to enable their people to enjoy healthy, balanced lives.

Avondale is a Biodynamic / Organic winery and their ethos is to protect the entire ecosystem around the vineyard. It includes unique methods of treatment of the soil and crops, and the planning of key activities around astrological cycles. The results certainly speak for themselves and planting by the lunar cycle is something Farmers have been to for 100s years! They have a flock of beautiful Pekin Ducks which are used a natural pest controllers and they get taken to the vineyards daily to remove any unwanted pests.
