Things to do in the Lake District in Spring and Summer

There are so many things to do in the Lake District in Spring and Summer, especially for adults and couples. You can choose holidays and short breaks outside of school holidays. And there's plenty of choice for quiet, relaxing visits to the Lake District or for something more adventurous.

Lake District activities for adults and couples

What things to do in the Lake District? It's never going to be a conundrum! There is a plethora of Spring and Summer activities in the Lakes from which to choose. You can take to the waters of Lake Windermere from the Low Wood Bay Watersports Centre. Or perhaps explore the woodlands of the Wild Boar Estate and take in a Falconry session there too.

Spring and Summer are wonderful seasons to visit. There are plenty of Lake District activities to entertain you, in the great outdoors and within our hotels too.

Spa Breaks and Spa Days & Treatments

For many of us, holidays and short breaks in the Lakes need to simply be about relaxation.
And The Spa at Low Wood Bay combines beautiful Lake District views with the best spa facilities in Windermere. Overlooking the lake, the indoor outdoor Thermal Journey will rest weary muscles and rejuvenate tired minds.

Add a treatment or two and our spa therapists will ensure that they are tailor-made to suit your individual requirements. There’s a range of spa days all of which include lunch at Blue Smoke on the Bay.

Things to do in the Lake District - how about afternoon tea?

Lake District activities can also centre on food! And we have two very different afternoon tea experiences for you to sample.

The Wild Boar Alternative Afternoon Tea transforms the idea of the traditional English afternoon tea with the addition of mouth watering mini savoury treats and drinks to suit.

Then there’s the Blue Smoke at Low Wood Bay Wood-fired Afternoon Tea. This is a taste triumph served on four tiers of mini frying pans, and includes sticky lollipop pig wings, hot smoked salmon and loaded nachos.

A departure from delicate finger sandwiches perhaps, but we’ve kept the scones with lashings of cream and jam.

Other things to do in the Lake District in Spring and Summer:

Lake District activities on the water

Low Wood Bay Watersports Centre is a fun filled hub for things to do in the Lake District. You can have a go at paddleboarding, kayaking or even wake boarding behind a boat. You can also hire your own watercraft and explore the coves and shoreline of Windermere.

Falconry sessions at Low Wood Bay and the Wild Boar Estate

Few hotel venues offer falconry in the Lake District and the opportunity to see and handle majestic birds of prey.

Both Low Wood Bay and the Wild Boar Estate offer falconry experiences, including customised 'hawk walks'. You and your partner, friends or family can learn falconry skills and handle the birds as they fly to and from your gloved fist.

Lakes Distillery

Lakes Distillery is England’s largest whisky distillery and uses pure water from the Lake District National Park. Its renowned distillery process involves a particularly long fermentation time to deepen and broaden the whisky flavour. Take a tour to see exactly how this award-winning tipple is created and how different yeasts create multi-faceted flavours.

Cycling in the Lake District

Whether you are into road cycling, mountain biking, tandem touring or an electric-powered ride, the Lake District is a beautiful destination with stunning views and accessible trails.

Bring your own bicycle, or hire one from Country Lanes Cycle Centre at Windermere train station. Or for easier access to Grizedale Forest, try Lake District Bikes.

Choose from mountain bikes, electric bikes, alloy or carbon road bikes, tandems, children’s bikes along with all the necessary equipment including helmets, maps etc.

Castle Rigg Stone Circle

Completely free to visit, Castle Rigg stone circle is an English Heritage owned attraction. It is amongst the oldest stone circles in Britain, dating back to the Neolithic period in 3000 BC. Set amidst a dramatic landscape with Helvellyn and High Street fells looking on, this is a fascinating Lake District phenomenon.
