Summer is our favourite time of year at Low Wood Bay Watersports and the sizzling season is already well under way. With so many activities happening out on the lake, it was quite a challenge to catch up with the team on dry land. But here they are, telling us what they love about life on, and around, the lake.
Low Wood Watersports Manager
Paul has worked at Low Wood Bay Watersports for 15 years, starting as a water ski and sailing instructor before taking on the management of the Centre. In his spare time, he is involved with the Arnside and South Lakes Coastguard Service, as well as racing classic speedboats. When not on the water, he is currently working on the restoration of a Windermere 17 yacht.

Eleven seasons at Low Wood Bay Watersports, working full-time at the Centre from 2006.

Gary has worked at Low Wood Watersports Centre for twelve years. Works three days a week.
"I'm officially retired, but wouldn't miss the summer season at Low Wood Bay for anything. I love sailing in any weather".
Worked for Low Wood Bay for 5 years, first in hotel Reception and, since July 2017, at Low Wood Bay Watersports.
"I organise the facilities and the team, but I’ve also started to get fully involved in many of the water-based activities – learning some of them for the first time. My first experience of Flyboarding was in the middle of February! I was the happiest person when I got above water level and was able to fly!"
"The atmosphere at Low Wood Watersports is quite unique - somewhere between a completely fun, laid back environment and a serious professional world class resort. Even though I am more office base, I feel like I am having a great time every day thanks to my supportive manager Paul and our brilliant team".

Fourth season at Low Wood Bay Watersports.
"I've enjoyed my work as an instructor so much that I am starting university in September to study a BA (Hons) Primary Education with QTS".
Seeing the rewards at the end of the lesson, either someone landing a trick, learning how to get up on water-skis, or just seeing someone get off the boat with a grin cheek to cheek".
"The team are always great to work with and I feel looked after working for English Lakes. The atmosphere is always positive which transfers to the customers, making the whole place an enjoyable place to be”.
Sailing & Paddleboard Instructor
Second season at Low Wood Bay Watersports. Started in 2017 as General Assistant and recently qualified as an instructor.
"I love my job because every day is different and I learn so much from the other instructors. The work can be very challenging, but I like to overcome the challenges".

Fourth season at Low Wood Bay Watersports Centre, spending the winter season working in the hotel.
Qualifications: Level 1 Coach; 2 Star in Canoe and Kayak; Powerboat Level 2
Favourite Sport: Wake-boarding
Teaching a beginner and seeing their skills improve by the end of the season.
Doing Summer Splash – the sessions are such fun and I love seeing the enjoyment on the children’s faces".

"I first got into sailing in 2009. From there I was introduced to kayaking, canoeing and even stand-up paddle boarding! I’m gaining new water sports qualifications whilst working at Low Wood Bay".

Water Ski and Wakeboard Instructor
Just completed a Level 3 Outdoor Adventure Sport Diploma at Newton Rigg College. Also qualified to teach Canoeing and Kayaking.
"I've been into the outdoors from a very young age and love being outside whenever I can. I really enjoy kayaking, but, off the water, I am also into bouldering and climbing".
