Christmas Afternoon Tea in the Lake District

With a Christmas afternoon tea, you can make the festive season one to remember for all the right reasons!

Christmas afternoon tea in the Lake District

Christmas is a wonderful time to get together with friends, family and perhaps those we’ve not been able to see for a little while.

One of the best ways to do that is by getting everyone together for a Christmas afternoon tea.

At English Lakes Hotels, we take great pride in putting together a classic hotel afternoon tea.

Whether you’re staying at our hotels in the Lake District, each of our venues offers something distinct and equally delicious.

And our Christmas afternoon tea experiences are second to none too with a host of taste sensations tailor made for the festive season.

Wood-fired teatime delights at Low Wood Bay

A hotel afternoon tea at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa comes with a quirky but fine selection of treats.

Served on a heavy duty 4-tier pan-handled stand, our culinary team has lovingly conjured up a range of miniature flavoursome Christmas savoury delights. It’s a Lake District afternoon tea with several points of difference.

The depth of flavour comes from cooking over the hot-embers of Blue Smoke at Low Wood Bay’s wood-fired grill. Savoury sticky lollipop pig wings, rum cured hot-smoked salmon, Kentucky bourbon and Blue Smoke brisket sandwich and chicken fillet skewers all make for a tremendous savoury start.

Then the Christmas afternoon tea sweet-tooth delights come into play. From miniature Christmas puddings, warm mince pies with cream and festive gingerbread, you’ll soon get into the party mood. And why not add a rum or bourbon cocktail for an extra warming glow on a cold winter afternoon by the hotel fireside.

Christmas afternoon tea at The Wild Boar

And if you’re looking for a hotel afternoon tea where you can work up an appetite before sitting down to eat, look no further than The Wild Boar Estate in the beautiful Gilpin Valley.

Here you can earn your Christmas afternoon tea with a walk in the hotel woodlands or by taking part in a host of different activities from falconry and clay pigeon shooting to archery and axe throwing.

After this, Christmas afternoon tea at the Wild Boar gives you time to kick back, relax and enjoy the warm atmosphere of a traditional inn.

Sit by the roaring open fire whilst chef loads up this sturdy three-tier feast. We’ve gone ‘wild’ with our mushroom soup, accompanied by a gloriously cheesy scone, perfect for dipping.

Our smoked butter popcorn chicken comes straight from our in-house smokehouse and the damson ketchup on the side adds a seasonal flavour punch.

By popular request, mini fish and chips comes as standard and holds its own amongst the festive flavours. If we had to pick the savoury golden child for this festive hotel afternoon tea, it might have to be the Wild Boar chestnut and cranberry sausage roll. Just how does chef get so much of Christmas wrapped up in a little pastry bundle?

On a sweet note, the stars of the Wild Boar hotel afternoon tea are chocolate and candied orange brownies. But there’s also Frangipane mince pies, fruit scones and, of course, brandy butter.

This Christmas afternoon tea also includes a glass of your choice. Why not sample our Wild Boar mulled wine, aniseed and bourbon apple-y mulled cider, or our famous Wild Boar beer bat or a glass of Prosecco?
