Donation Of Saplings For National Tree Week

Up to 400 trees are being donated to guests at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa as the latest conservation project at English Lakes Hotels puts down its roots.

Low Wood Bay Donates Hazel Saplings To Guests

The team at the hotel decided to celebrate National Tree Week by donating free Hazel saplings to guests who stayed at the resort during that week.

The group’s latest green-fingered initiative is seeking to raise awareness for conservation and the need to increase tree cover across the UK to help attain net zero emissions targets.

A Hotel Stay With The Environment In Mind

Guests could either take away the sapling and plant it in their garden at home or request that the Low Wood Bay team plants it in Michael’s Wood, the plantation set up in memory of the late Michael Berry who was chairman and managing director of the hotel group.  Over 2,500 trees have already been planted there.

Organised by The Tree Council, National Tree Week takes place each year at the end of November.  This timing is important as it marks the start of the tree planting season.

We’re always encouraging our guests to take part in projects like this or donate to our sustainability fund which supports conservation and tree planting initiatives with organisations such as the Lune Rivers Trust and Cumbria Community Foundation.

Not many hotels in the Lake District and North Lancashire have the opportunity and space to plant trees and grow new woodlands.  So tree planting has naturally become a key environmental commitment aiming is to revitalise scenic areas with more tree cover.

Striving To Reduce Our Carbon Footprint

Conservation, protecting our beautiful rural environments and seeking to maximise renewable energy opportunities are part of our ethos and culture here at English Lakes Hotels.

Our tree planting drives are complemented by the use of solar energy at Lancaster House Hotel and The Wild Boar Inn, as well as generating our own electricity with the hydro-electric turbine at Low Wood Bay.

Low Wood Bay has also been offering free upgrades on room bookings made during National Tree Week.  The hotel’s rooms are named after tree species and guest bookings made during that period see Willows upgraded to Hazels, Hazels to Limes and Limes to Oak.

Why Tree Cover Is So Important

The battle against climate change affects us all.  Although it might sometimes seem too big, it is the little differences added together which make an impact, create momentum and change our collective thinking.

Planting trees and creating new woodlands is a positive step towards carbon capture, protection of habitats and maintaining the beauty and diversity of the rural countryside surrounding our hotel venues.
