Lake District holidays in Spring and Summer

We have a great choice of Lake District holidays in the Spring and early Summer. So too we can inspire you with plenty of ideas on how to spend your time with us here.

So if you are starting to consider the best place to spend your well-earned Spring bank holiday break or early Summer holiday?

Then take a closer look at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa and The Wild Boar Estate. Both Lake District hotels cater for Spring and Summer holidays or short breaks. And each is perfectly situated for discovering all that the area has to offer.

A Lake District Spring break is one of the most popular and scenic times to explore. Perhaps you need that romantic get-away with your partner. Or maybe you’ve promised the family a short break in the Lake District after a long winter.

And we can show you how to make your Lake District holidays action packed and full of fun. Many Lake District attractions re-open their doors in the Spring, when the weather warms up. The sun rises higher in the sky, the lakes get their sparkle back and the landscape dons a rich new coat of colours.

Lake District Spring breaks

Spring is the season when the Lake District explodes into new life. The fells and woodlands have a renewed variety and vibrancy. There are 100 native tree and shrub varieties in the UK, and most can be found in the Lake District.

Add to that a host of exotic trees, ancient trees and veteran trees – some over 250 years old! You have trees of interest around just about every corner of the National Park.

Spring is the time to see these countryside cathedrals wake from their winter slumbers, delighting with their shapes and colours.

It wouldn’t be the Lake District in Spring without mention of Wordsworth’s Daffodils. A Lake District Spring break is nothing without them. The sight of them swaying in the breeze will bring you the same contentment as they did to the famous poet.

And there are many gardens to visit that show off the Lake District’s horticultural prowess. Explore too the wild nooks and crannies that can take your breath away with the sheer spread and depth of colour. Every year our guests enjoy a magnificent display of bluebells in The Wild Boar woodlands across its 72 acre estate.

Summer holidays in the Lake District

Our Summer holidays in the Lake District offer you long lazy, hazy days that can be spent on the Windermere shoreline. Or you can amble through quaint villages and then enjoy a leisurely afternoon tea. For the more adventurous, there are the fells, higher peaks and mountains to explore.

Although summer holidays in the Lake District are popular, it is always possible to find a quiet spot to appreciate the beauty of the area in all its warmth and splendour.

Things to do in the Lake District

Lots of walks for hikers and fell climbers

Before we list all the specific Lake District attractions, it would be amiss not to mention the thousands of walks that bring people to the area.

A Spring holiday in the Lake District is a great time to stride out. The trails are clear of the winter mud and ice. And it’s possible to start getting a little bit higher on the fells to enjoy some of the best views in the Lake District. Our reception teams are happy to advise on all the best walks close to the hotels.

There are also a growing number of wheelchair and pushchair friendly walks. It is worth mentioning Tarn Hows, a National Trust owned and run lake near Coniston. The scenic circular path around the tarn is less than two miles long and borrowing Tramper mobility scooters make it accessible for all.

Characterful Lake District villages to visit

Just ambling through the quaint and characterful streets of our Lakeland villages can provide hours of enjoyment. Browse the independent shops and treat yourself in the boutique or local art stores. Then, of course, there are the thousands of quirky and cosy coffee shops to choose from. Here’s some of our favourite Lake District villages.

Best places to eat in the Lake District

There are many fantastic places to eat in the Lake District. Call us biased, but we believe our three Lake District restaurants are up there with the finest.

The W restaurant at Low Wood Bay

With both a seasonal British and continental menu, The W restaurant caters for a wide range of tastes.

It’s also garnered a strong reputation as one of the best places in the Lake District for a traditional Sunday roast.

And it also offers a range of signature dishes and customer favourites, plus a range of vegetarian and vegan delights.

For those with a sweeter tooth, there’s also the chance to enjoy the famous Low Wood Bay sticky toffee pudding which has been proudly served at the hotel for over 200 years.

The W is also renowned for its diverse selection of wines from all over the world. And the wine is all the better for our highly innovative wine refrigeration and preservation system.

Blue Smoke at Low Wood Bay

Blue Smoke at Low Wood Bay is warm, friendly, vibrant, and inviting. Relax while we serve up mouth-watering dishes from around the world prepared on our 3-metre-long open grill.

During the day enjoy lunch or our very special Afternoon Tea, with beautiful views over Windermere. Evening sunsets behind the Lake District hills bring atmosphere and romance, making it a very popular place to enjoy dinner with family and friends.

The Grill and Smokehouse at The Wild Boar

The Wild Boar Grill and Smokehouse restaurant has a great reputation for steaks prepared just how you like them. But there is so much more to the menu, including our Alternative Afternoon Tea.

Sit back and enjoy the theatre of our head chef preparing your meal at our open kitchen and grill. The culinary team will certainly add a bit of colour, flavour and spice to your Lake District Spring break or summer holiday. They use wholesome fresh ingredients and are not afraid of a bold flavour-punch when it’s called for.

The on-site Smokehouse lends an additional depth to the restaurant’s menus, as does the choice of beers and ales from our onsite Brewery.
